Travelling the world

An expat living abroad in Europe - an export really. Ten years on and I’m no longer the accidental tourist. Europe, UK, Australia, Singapore/Malaysia - I’ve either travelled extensively or lived there. I love travel - the journey, the history, the people, the adventure, the learning. Seeing the world with new eyes and just appreciating what is there. How far the journey I have come. My latest craze is hiking long distance trails - mainly along old monastic / pilgrimage routes. I love old buildings and it’s a way of connecting me with people from the past, their hopes and dreams. Travel taught me, that people are basically the same. And it is through food and culture that we come to have a dialogue. I am incredibly grateful. Thank you for spending some time with me. And do leave a comment so that I know you’ve been by.

Hiking the VF, that’s Via Francigena to everyone else

After nearly a three year hiatus, I am off on another adventure. This time the Via Francigena. Very excited, and nervous. I will start tomorrow and cover just the Italian leg of the walk. I had great intentions of doing... Continue Reading →

Düsseldorf Christmas markets

I was in the mood for a good German Christmas market experience this year. The most brilliant one I've had in my time in Europe was in Vienna. So I was in search for the same experience. I learned that... Continue Reading →

Camino Finisterre – Day 5 – Logoso to Corcubion

Camino Finisterre – Day 4 – Moranos to Logoso

The rains pounded through the night. It was very heavy. I did feel relieved that it was raining so heavily. I figured that it was better for the moisture to get squeezed out of those rain clouds whilst we were... Continue Reading →

2016 Resolutions

So it's a new year and we must do resolutions, must we not?  Goals and things we must achieve or otherwise feel the failure from.  I have done resolutions as to weight, do better, do more, earn more, be more,... Continue Reading →

Have you seen it? I've been searching for a TED Talk video of a pair of friends who walked the camino together. One is a paraplegic. I saw this video before I left on the camino and it brought tears... Continue Reading →

2015 – Post-camino reflections

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." It truly was. I started the year in 2015 believing it was, well ..., quite shit really.  I also believed it was a year that would end well.... Continue Reading →

Camino Finisterre –  Day 3 – Negreira to Moranos

When I told hubs that we were in Negreira, he thought I said Nigeria. I guess the words looks similar and the brain makes up the rest. Great intentions went by the wayside. Desires to wake up and be... Continue Reading →

Camino Finisterre – Day 2 – Santiago de Compostela to Negreira

Our grand plan of waking up early to walk fell by the wayside. Peering at the still dark sky, it felt too cold to walk. That's just an excuse, of course. So was the reason that I didn't know what... Continue Reading →
